Balaouras: I wouldn’t rule out ‘Macedonia’ name

“The issue is not of great importance. We have to find a compromise solution,” he said

While there is still tension between SYRIZA and ANEL due to the statements of Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Yannis Mouzalas who called FYROM ‘Macedonia’, SYRIZA MP Makis Balaouras stated that he would not rule out the possibility of accepting ‘Macedonia’ as the official name for FYROM.

Speaking at Parapolitika 90.1 radio station, Mr. Balaouras said that the name issue must be solved in one way or another.

Asked on whether he would accept the name ‘North Macedonia’, he said he would not say no and when asked if he would rule out ‘Macedonia’, he replied: “I will not rule out ‘Macedonia’ name”.

“The issue is not of great importance. We have to find a compromise solution. Unfortunately we missed the opportunity in the past. I wouldn’t object to ‘North Macedonia’ or ‘Slavomacedonia’. I wouldn’t rule out ‘Macedonia’ either,” he said.
