The 6th Panhellenic Synchronized Public Breastfeeding festival takes place in over 50 cities of Greece on Sunday, November 1. The event kicks off a week of celebration aimed at raising breastfeeding awareness and marks the start of World Breast Feeding Week (November 1-7).

The event hopes to promote breastfeeding practices that remain low in Greece, though there are no laws preventing public breastfeeding. This year, the World Health Organization is joining forces with the International Labor Organization to spread the message that “Breastfeeding and employment can work!”

Women who wish to join in the mass breastfeeding celebration can attend at 11 a.m. at Zappeion in the Athens Center and wait for their babies to get hungry so that the nursing can begin! Participants can participate in a speech, meet with other mothers and share their experiences but also receive informative leaflets to help them continue breastfeeding with success!

Last year more than 600 mothers took part in the initiative.in Athens alone.
