Public opinion has been stunned by the disappearance and suicide of student Vangelis Giakoumakis, aged 20, who was pushed by bullies to take his own life. Following his funeral in Crete, thousands of people gathered in ioannina, northwestern Greece, the place where the unfortunate boy spent the last few months of his life studying at the Dairy School.
Thousands gathered outside Ioannina’s city hall in memory of the bullying victim. They held a candelit vigil to show support for the boy who died so young and to send a loud message against school violence, on the rise in Greece over the last few years.
City hall opened a condolences book to allow people who gathered a chance to express their sympathies for the boy they never met but grew to know as the case of his disappearance unraveled.
