CNN explores the secrets of Ikaria island, where people forget to die (Video)

Ikaria’s residents allegedly outlive other Greeks, Europeans and Americans by almost a decade.

CNN reporter Bill Weir is the host of “The Wonder List” a primetime CNN Original Series shot by acclaimed filmmaker Philip Bloom, that travels to five continents in search of unique people and places, cultures and creatures.

In the latest episode of the successful series, Weir explores the secrets of a little Greek island called Ikaria, where the residents allegedly outlive other Greeks, Europeans and Americans by almost a decade.

As part of his research, Weir spent several days on Ikaria last summer along with Dan Buettner, an American explorer and author who has done significant research into the “blue zones,” a term for the regions on Earth with the longest life expectancy, disability-free life expectancy or concentration of persons over 100.

There, the two men saw firsthand the lifestyle secrets of 80- and 90-year-olds who experience Alzheimer’s and dementia at a rate one-fifth of America’s, which they present in their show.
