COSCO dominates meeting between gov’t, Chinese envoy

A first assessment of how COSCO operates in the port of Piraeus, while emphasis was given to labor relations in force – According to Ministry officials the Chinese Ambassador departed fully satisfied

Chinese multination COSCO’s major investment in Greece, the Piraeus container port, dominated a meeting on Thursday between the relevant government ministers and China’s ambassador to Greece.

According to reports, Chinese envoy Zou Xiaoli requested the meeting with new Minister of Infrastructure Finance, Shipping and Tourism George Stathakis and Deputy Minister Thodoris Dritsas.

According to protothema.gr reports, during the meeting at the ministry of tourism, COSCO’s operation and labor relations at the terminal were on the agenda.

The same sources told protothema.gr that following the meeting the Chinese ambassador was “fully satisfied”.

“They did not express any concern over how the new government will deal and address COSCO. After all, they are diplomats. It was clear enough that they wanted a meeting up close, following the change of government and the new ministers receiving their portfolios,” officials were quoted as saying.

The two new ministers and the Chinese envoy also reportedly agreed to engage in a “constructive dialogue” to enhance mutual cooperation.
