Covid masks scrapped indoors and outdoors from June 1st

Mask-wearing will be mandatory in hospitals and nursing homes

Mandatory Covid-19 mask-wearing will be scrapped indoors and outdoor in all areas from June 1, Minister of Health Thanos Plevris said on Wednesday. The relaxation of the new measure will be in effect from June 1st until September 15th, 2022.

Speaking about the decisions of the committee of Covid-19 experts, the minister said that the mask will no longer be obligatory on airplanes and on intercity transport where there are numbered seats, such as on trains and intercity buses. Transport employees can also remove their masks.

The mask will remain in hospitals and nursing homes, but also in other health structures where its presence is considered necessary at the moment.

As for schools, the Minister of Health said that the committee will decide next week on what exactly will be implemented after studying all the data.

Plevris made it clear that the new measure means that the administrative fine will not be imposed from now on. Those who wish to continue using the mask will be able to do so and it is recommended especially for people who belong to high-risk groups but also in overcrowded places.
