Crucial 3-hour meeting at Maximos Mansion concluded

Riding into the storm of negotiations with creditors … without a helmet

A meeting between the PM and the government’s top economy committee a few days before the 9th of April lasted about three hours.

It was one of the many meetings held by Alexis Tsipras in Maximos Mansion lately. This one, however, was unique since Spiegel revealed that the latest EuroWorking Group did not hold the best of news for Greece’s leftist government, and while the same mag claimed that the IMF recalled its cadres from Athens.

The Finance Ministry, in its announcement, commented that the EuroWorking Group’s teleconference rumors have no basis on reality, while it also attributed the IMF’s officials departing due to the Catholic Easter.

FinMin Yanis Varoufakis and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Eucleides Tsakalotos departed together shortly before 6 in the afternoon. The two men left on  Varoufakis’ high-powered motorcycle rather than the usual ministerial sedans.

Even though the “erratic Marxist” Yanis wore a helmet, Tsakalotos broke the law and rode pillion without the safety gear.

Minister of Development George Stathakis exited the Mansion shortly afterwards. He stated that the meeting was fruitful. Responding to the question on whether funds in public coffers are running out, he stated: “I don’t think so. The situation is manageable”.
