Cyprus: Archbishop Chrysostomos II has died

The Archbishop fought a long battle with cancer, while recently he was hospitalized in a critical condition

The Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II passed away this morning at the age of 81.

According to church sources, the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II died this morning, at 06:45′.

The Archbishop fought a long battle with cancer, while recently he was hospitalized in critical condition.

A few days ago, Archbishop Hieronymos visited him.

The Archbishop of Nea Justiniana and all Cyprus has been Primate of the Church of Cyprus since September 2006. He succeeded Archbishop Chrysostomos I.

Until his election as archbishop, he had served as bishop of Paphos since February 1978.

He had also succeeded Chrysostomos I on the throne of Paphos, when he was elected archbishop in November 1977.
