Government wants to get 1.5blhn Euros from fuel taxes

Fuel prices are expected to rise substantially as a result of the imminent new bill to be voted in Greek parliament on indirect taxation. The hikes are estimated to occur due to the increase of the VAT from 23% to 24%, but mainly because of the rise in special consumption levy. Diesel is expected to go up by a staggering 10-13 Euro cents per liter, with the Greek government hoping to rake in 300mln Euros in taxes. Petrol, heating fuel, gas and LPG drive will also be affected by hike in the special consumption levy. The government wants to increase revenues by 1.5bln Euros through fuel levies.
