Diocese of Glydfada prays for postponement of Pope’s visit to Greece

Pope Francis to visit hotspots and meet with Greek PM Alexis Tsipras

The Greek Orthodox Diocese of Glyfada issued a statement saying it would pray for the scheduled visit of Pope Francis to Greece on April 16 to be postponed, as it considered the visit of ‘such grave significance’ that it should be decided upon by the whole body of the Greek Orthodox Church and not solely to the Archbishop of Athens and Greece, Hieronymus. Pope Francis is expected to arrive in Greece on Saturday, April 16 and will visit the island of Lesvos, one of the Aegean islands that has bore the brunt of the refugee waves. The head of the Roman Catholic Church will be received by the Archbishop of Athens, Hieronymus, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras and the Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew, who was also invited. The three Church leaders will visit the Moria and Epano Skala refugee hotspots.
