An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred at 3:37pm in the area west of Crete.
Specifically, and according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 56km west of Platanos of the Kissamos area.
The focal depth is estimated at 40km under sea level.
This is a familiar spot where earthquakes occur continuously, which thankfully most of the time are light to moderate, but the epicenter has produced stronger earthquakes in the past.
