EC: Exterior EU border controls lacking by Greece

More measures to lift internal EU border controls

European Commission spokesperson Mina Andreeva said the Greek government needs to do more to improve the exterior border controls of the EU. Andreeva announced the Commission would present its final findings on May 12, on the reticence of controls some EU countries have imposed on internal EU borders for six more months. The Commission is also expected to release its the review of ten Dublin Accord on migration next week. Last month the body had put forward some alternative options for a ‘fairer’ more ‘viable’ system of refugee distribution among EU countries. May 12 will be the same day the Commission also publishes its progress report on Turkey’s fulfilment of requirements emanating from the EU-Turkey refugee agreement and tied to the relaxing of visas for Turkish nationals to the EU.
