Egyptian court sentences ousted president Morsi to death

Ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi has been sentenced to death on charges related to a deadly prison break before his presidency in 2011.

The first-ever Muslim Brotherhood president had already been slapped with 20 years in jail for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his brief time in power.

According to the BBC, Egypt’s highest religious authorities will now give their opinion before any sentence can be carried out.
