Despite the decrease in refugee flow to Greek islands, more than 6,000 refugees and immigrants are living under the worst conditions at Elliniko.

The management of “Elliniko SA” sent a letter warning of the possible epidemic outbreak, since more than 6,000 people are staying in the temporary refugee center at former Greek airport at Elliniko.

Argyroupolis mayor Yannis Konstantatos described to MEGA TV channel the unacceptable conditions under which the refugees live, stressing also that they had to break the glass sheets of the airport hall, since there are no windows there.

“The temperature at the arrivals hall reach 40 degrees. The area is unsuitable for hosting people. We could not stand to stay there not even one day. Yesterday, they were asking to break the glass sheets of the hall because the hall has no windows,” he said.

Moreover, Elliniko is a public health time bomb, with the refugees going to nearby Agios Kosmas beach to bathe themselves and wash their clothes.
