Erdogan satirical video cause diplomatic row between Turkey and Germany (video)

German Ambassador summoned by Turkish authorities

A satirical video on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aired on German state TV station NRD has caused a diplomatic row between the two countries. According to German newspaper ‘Spiegel’, the German Ambassador in Ankara was summoned by the Turkish authorities to give explanations about the 2-minute video, entitled ‘Erdowi, Erdowo, Erdogan’ that depicted the Turkish President as living like a king with lyrics making reference to journalists being imprisoned for criticizing him. Erdogan has become notorious for his unapologetic and violent cracking down on dissenting voices in his country. His undemocratic stance towards freedom of speech has caused widespread criticism from the west, but he seems unabated in his harsh tactics against those who criticise him. In the past 18 months Turkish justice has prosecuted nearly 2,000 people for ‘offending’ Erdogan. Turkey has by far the highest instances of state censorship on social media than any other country in the world.
