Erdogan’s new palace under construction in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis & despite court ruling!

Erdogan announced plans for the construction of the palace in Ahlat in early 2019

Construction of a new presidential palace for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the eastern province of Bitlis’ ancient town of Ahlat continues despite the country’s top court’s ruling, the provincial head of the main opposition party said.

“Construction of the palace in Bitlis Ahlat continues at full speed?” Veysi Uyanık, the provincial head of the Republican People’s Party, said on Twitter, sharing a photo of the structure.

Erdoğan announced plans for the construction of the palace in Ahlat in early 2019.

Located near Lake Van, Ahlat is considered an open-air museum due to its Seljuk-era relics, including masonry and graveyards dating to the 12th century, and the area is a candidate for World Heritage Site.

Last July, Turkey’s Constitutional Court annulled an article in an omnibus law allowing for the construction of a new presidential complex in the ancient town near Turkey’s largest lake.
