The European Commission categorically denied former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varroufakis’s claims that Greece’s General Secretary for Public Revenue, Katerina Savvaidou was under the control of the Commission.

During a press briefing, the Commission’s spokesperson Mina Andreeva said Greece’s General Secretariat for Public Revenues is a totally independent body, adding that it is in fact the Greek Finance Ministry that provides IT services to the body. “The Commission and the IMF only provide technical assistance to the General Secretariat of Public Revenues” she stressed. She dismissed the idea of Greece setting up a parallel currency as ‘conspiracy’ theories.
