Eurostat: Trade surplus for the EU28

Eurostat releases its second estimate for the EU and notes a trade surplus in the second quarter

The 28 member states of the European Union recorded a trade surplus of 32.6 billion euros in the second quarter of 2014, up from a surplus of 8.1 billion euros (0.2% of the GDP) in the first quarter of 2014 and down from a surplus of 40.9 billion euros (1.3% of the GDP) in the second quarter of 2013.

In the second quarter of 2014 compared with the first quarter of 2014, based on seasonally adjusted data, the deficits of the goods account (from -9.4 billion euros to -7.6 billion euros) and secondary income account (from -19.3 billion euros to -18.8 billion euros) both decreased, while the deficit of the primary income account moved to surplus (from -5.9 billion euros to +17.5 billion euros). The surplus of the services account fell slightly (from +42.8 billion euros to +41.5 billion euros).
