The experience of a motorhome holiday provides travelers with a sense of freedom and autonomy, according to the Hellenic Motorhome Club (HMC) that numbers 300 members. In efforts to tighten relations between fans of this alternative form of travel, the HMC is organizing new group excursions – the first in autumn to the Peloponnese and more to come in the second half of September.
“RV travelers can sleep at night while listening to birds or the ocean waves. They are surrounded by nature. They can meet new people. They can choose the view they wish to enjoy and don’t have to be tied to one location,” says HMC General Secretary Aspasia Christodoulaki, speaking to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency. Fans of this form of free-range family travel also point to other benefits such as comfort, low travel costs and a sense of escape.
Ms. Christodoulaki says that this form of travel has been popular in America and other countries around Europe for decades however the economic crisis put a brake on Greek RV buyers just as this form of tourism began to flourish. Even so, Ms. Christodoulakis stresses that motorhome travel makes sense when bearing in mind that a weekly travel budget under ordinary circumstances can be expanded to one and a half months of travel with an RV.
