Finance Ministry records primary surplus of 707 mln euros

The Finance Ministry announced an increased primary surplus and cuts in government spending for the five-month period from January to May

The Finance Ministry recorded a primary surplus worth 707 million euros for the five-month period from January to May. For this period, there is a deficit in the balance of the fiscal budget worth 1,990 million euros, a drop from the 3,843-million euro deficit for the same period in 2013.

Net revenue from the state budget came to 19,600 million euros, noting a 40-million euro increase or 0.2% of the Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF) for 2015-2018.

Regular revenue was at 17,300 million euros, up 57 million euros, or 0.3 percent higher to the updated goals.

The total of tax revenue was at 16,060 million euros, up by 140 million euros or 9.9% of the updated goals.

The State Budget’s spending amounted to 21,590 million euros, down by 529 million euros against the updated goal (22,119 million euros).

Expenditure in the regular budget decreased 2,057 million euros (9.4%) in comparison with the same period of 2014. This reduction is due to the reduction of the total primary surplus by 1,528 million euros or 8.4% to the same period in 2013.
