Finance Ministry staff charged with bribery

The people charged for bribery and fraud deny the charges

Two staff members of the Financial Crimes Squad in the Finance Ministry and another four individuals were led before a prosecutor on Tuesday on charges of bribery and blackmail of a businessman. They all denied that they blackmailed a businessman in order to complete an audit with reduced tax fines.

The four include another staffmember of the Ministry of Finance, the businessman’s accountant and her husband who is a pensioner in the ministry and their son, who works at the Bank of Greece.

They all denied the charges with the accountant claiming that she merely informed the businessman that he was going to be fined due to their 25-year professional relationship.
