Fire in Rhodes: Top story in the British media

Evacuation operations are underway

British media are reporting extensively on the fire fronts and the major operation to rescue British tourists from the areas they were vacationing in Rhodes and were affected by the firestorm.

The Daily Mail, the BBC, and the Mirror are leading with the fires on the island of the Knights and the major evacuation operation.

The Daily Mail reports that hundreds of tourists have been forced to leave Rhodes resorts as the uncontrolled fires spread across the island of Rhodes, turning the sky orange and filling the air with acrid smoke.

The online version of the newspaper reports the authorities’ decision to order the evacuation of four areas, including two seaside resorts, as the fire burns the island for a fifth day.

At the same time, the Guardian also has Greece at the top of its agenda for the heatwave conditions in the country.
