The first nest of the sea turtle Caretta-Caretta for this season was located early on Monday in west Secania, Zakynthos, by volunteers of the Organisation Archelon and in 50-60 days the first hatching is expected to be born.
According to information, two more attempts had been made by turtles the previous days to come ashore to nest up on the east side of the beach, but to no avail.
Last year, 3,456 nests which hatched 214,539 baby turtles were found. Archelon volunteers were able to protect 2,532 nests which led 148,843 hatchlings safe to the sea.
