First day of the EU-Turkey agreement and Turkey sends 800 immigrants to Greece

Greek Coast Guard collected the bodies of two little girls, who fell off the boat

Boats carrying refugees and immigrants from Turkey continue to arrive in Mytilene, according to information, despite the fact that as of today the agreement reached between EU and Turkey on stemming the refugee flow towards Greece comes into effect.

In almost two hours, more than 800 immigrants have reached the Greek island, while two of them drowned in their effort to reach the beach.

Moreover, “El.Venizelos” ferry was unable to set sail since a group of immigrants with forged temporary residence permits were found on Sunday morning, according to a journalist of local media lesvosnews.gr.

The ferry carrying 2,400 refugees and immigrants should have already set sail from the island on Saturday at 4pm heading to Kavala and returned to get more people. “In the meantime, immigrants continue to come, because the neighboring country has not stopped the refugee flow,” said Yannis Sinanis.

According to information reported on MEGA TV channel, the immigrants were carrying forged residence permits attempting to illegally stay in Greece, while authorities are investigating the case.

Another tragedy happened at the Greek island of Ro, when Greek Coast Guard collected the bodies of two little girls, aged 1 and 2 years. The children fell off the boat carrying 35-40 refugees from Turkey under unclear circumstances.
