First same-sex marriage in Cyprus

Two women use the recently voted law

The first same-sex marriage was performed in Larnaka, Cyprus, Monday, after the voting of the new law regarding same gender union. The two females had initially gone to the city hall believing they would be performing a civil marriage, but were informed that they would have to go to the nearby regional administrative buidling, in accordance to the new provisions. According to public broadcaster RIK, the staff were surprised as they were unprepared for the ceremony, but found a place and adorned it with some flowers and some candles. A lawyer acted as a witness to the union.
