Former Panathinaikos player Igor Sypniewski dead at 47

Sypniewski had been hospitalized for an undisclosed health problem

Former Panathinaikos player Igor Sypniewski has passed away at 47, according to several Polish media. The former MFF and HBK player turned 47 years old.

The Polish former international winger had worn the jerseys of Panathinaikos, OFI, Kavala, and Kallithea in Greece.

Sypniewski had been hospitalized for an undisclosed health problem. For years he struggled with depression and alcohol, and had attempted suicide, and was briefly imprisoned.

The Polish media reported the death of Sypniewski on Friday morning. He was introduced to Greek football in July 1997 on behalf of Kavala, while after Panathinaikos he played for OFI and Kallithea, also making 2 appearances for the Polish National Team in 1999. He stopped football at the age of just 33 with Bunkleflo in Sweden.
