Francois Hollande: The European spirit has prevailed

Europe cannot stand still

French President Francois Hollande said France supports a stronger organization of Europe in an interview to weekly Journal du Dimanche. Hollande said that the ‘European spirit’ had prevailed in the past week commenting on the Greek crisis. He warned that Europe cannot stand still and said he favoured adopting the proposals put forward by historic French statesman and former European Commission President Jaques Delors who is considered one of the architects of the Euro. “I have proposed taking up Jaques Delors’ idea about euro government, with the addition of a specific budget and a parliament to ensure democratic control”, Hollande said.
