French couple honored by local authorities in Hersonissos, Crete

The French deputy mayor has even instituted a “Greek night” event in her municipality

French Claudine Florentin and her husband Michel, repeat visitors of Hersonissos town, located in the north part of Crete, were honored today by local authorities.

As a small token of appreciation and friendship, mayor of Hersonissos town Ioannis Mastorakis and deputy mayor Themis Mountrakis welcomed today the couple at the City Hall, where they thanked them for their continuous support and presented them with a diploma and a commemorative gift.

Claudine Florentin is the deputy mayor of the small commune of Laneuveville-devant-Nancy in north-eastern France. Together with her husband, she visits the municipality of Hersonissos for the past 20 years. The French deputy mayor has even instituted a “Greek night” event in her municipality, with a population of 6,500 people, which is celebrated on January 17.

The Municipality of Hersonissos extends from the north coastline of central Crete to the imposing mountain chains of Lasithi. It is located a few kilometers away from the international airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” of Heraklion. Hersonissos is known as the most organized tourist destination in Crete. It is also known for its high quality hotels, conference infrastructures and the natural beauty of its coasts.
