French citizen arrested carrying explosives – Was he planning to attack Euro 2016?

A French citizen has been arrested at Poland – Ukraine border carrying an arsenal of weapons and 100 kg of explosives, media reported.

The man reportedly was planning to attack the Euro 2016 championships.

He was caught having in his vehicle 100 kg of explosives, fuses, three grenade launchers and several Kalashnikov assault rifles, as M6 TV channel reported, and he was trying to smuggle the weapons into France.

The arrest has also been confirmed by Ukraine’s border service to RIA Novosti.

“Yes, we can confirm this happened, but it’s SBU who’s in charge of that,” the press service said, as RT says.

According to France’s DNA news outlet, the man was arrested on May 21 and is still being held by Ukrainian authorities adding that he was also suspected of trying to acquire even more weapons.

The news website 20minutes.fr says that the man is a 25-year-old French from north-eastern region Lorraine, while M6 TV says authorities have searched his home and discovered explosive components and a T-shirt bearing the symbols of a far-right group.
