France is experiencing large forest fires in the south

The French president Emmanuel Macron tweeted in Greek thanking Greece for sending aid to France, which is facing major forest fires.

“Solidarity is European. A year ago, when Greece was facing terrible fires, we mobilised as Europeans. Yesterday, Greek firefighting aircraft arrived in the south of France to support the work of our firefighters,” the French President said in his post in Greek.

The 2 Canadair CL-415 sent as aid by Greece at the request of France to battle against the mega-fires in France were thrust into the fray yesterday afternoon.

The 2 Greek firefighting aircraft were requested by France after the country activated the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism, as it has to deal with forest fires burning in the Gironde department, while under high operational pressure due to the heatwave in the south of the country.

Yesterday, the two Canadairs operated until dusk over the forests in the NIM region, while the President of the country, Emmanuel Macron, publicly expressed his gratitude to Greece for its assistance.
