Fugitive terrorist C. Xiros was planning to strike by Tuesday (photos)

Police hope the kalashnikov will be the key that opens up a number of activities of a new generation of rebel fighters in the city.

Police sources investigating the 300 square-meter Anavyssos home where fugitive terrorist Christodoulos Xiros had been hiding out found a diagram showing a specific target with roads and routes for a terrorist strike planned by Mr. Xiros prior to the Epiphany Day holiday on Tuesday, January 6.

The diagram is being examined carefully, say police sources, whereas the routes drawn have already been followed in efforts to decode the planned attack.

Meanwhile, police officers are trying to find more details about people close to the fugitive during his months in hiding. Police sources state that this could take a long time as just one of the rooms of the house had been scoured for hours in order to find clues.

Following the arrest of Mr. Xiros on Saturday and the police investigations into the house, part of an RPG gun was found as well as seven kalashnikovs. Furthermore, there were sacks with sand in the yard of the home that are being examined in the case that they were planned for use during an attack, whereas the same sources state that there were explocive devices and a barrel of ANFO found as well as two metal cases that the police are examining in order to find out what they were used for.

Criminologists are at Anavyssos seeking fingerprints and trying to collect genetic material that may reveal who Mr. Xiros’ was collaborating with. It is hoped that the probe will identify the people who had entered and left the two-storey home at Anavyssos.

Looking for the mystery woman

Police are seeking a woman who was by the side of the fugitive while he was living at a house in Anavyssos from where he had been captured on Saturday. The well-known 58-year-old member of the Revolutionary 17 November Organization (17N) was known as Manolis and it is hoped that capturing the woman who had harbored him over the last few months could lead to other members of the group.

Analysts hope that they may find a link between Mr. Xiros and the Popular Fighters’ (Laikon Agoniston) terrorist group that had struck the Israeli Embassy a few days ago as well as the conservative New Democracy party’s offices at Syngrou Avenue and the home of the German Ambassador at the northern Athens suburb of Chalandri.

Investigations are currently taking place in Thessaloniki, Epirus, Aigio and Loutraki as the police have tracked calls to and from these regions though no official announcements have yet been made by the police concerning this.
