FYROM’s open crossing at Idomeni for migrants heading to Austria or Germany

FYROM wants Greek authorities to clearly state refugees’ final destination on travel documents

The authorities of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) opened the border at Idomeni. Authorities say that they closed the crossing for refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria on Tuesday following the notification from Slovenian authorities of a serious technical problem in the Slovenian railway network.

Slovenia asked Croatian, Serbian and FYROM authorities to not allow trains with refugees to enter its territory until the problem is solved.

FYROM’s authorities said they would open the crossing on the condition that Greek authorities clearly document the refugees’ country of final destination. It is believed that only migrants wishing to head to Austria or Germany will be allowed to cross.

Despite intentions to open the crossing, it remains closed.
