German media on Merkel – Tsipras meeting

Alexis Tsipras first visit in Berlin makes headlines in Germany

German Media focus on Monday’s crucial meeting between the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that: Issues remain in Athens and makes extensive references to internal Greek issues, while Spiegel indicates that: We must be able to understand each other much better and that Tsipras visit in Berlin was an attempt of a new approach and compliance with the agreements and adds that in reality German Chancellor Merkel did not want to make any promises”.

At the same time Der Spiegel magazine reports that both leaders wanted to confirm their intention to cooperate within the European Union.

The same report notes cites statements of the Greek Prime Minister, specifically the one stressing that both sides must put an end to stereotypes, since neither Greeks are lazy nor the Germans responsible of the suffering of Greece.

Among others, the prestigious newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine, also speaks of both leaders making an effort to calm the current situation.
