German MPs investigated for high treason

Top secret docs leaked online

Members of the Bundestag, the German parliament are under investigation for their alleged involvement in leaking top secret documents to online blog ‘Netzpolitik’, reports Der Spiegel. The German magazine claims to have possession of the incriminating documents, while it reports that the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BvF) has already filed suit and is directing its probe against Bundestag members on charges of high treason. As Der Spiegel reports the suits filed in March and April concern 9 members of the a parliamentary committee responsible for auditing the German intelligence services on a plan to monitor the internet. These plans were later revealed on ‘Netzpolitik’. It should be noted that the scandal had led to the resignation of a top German Federal Judge, who had complained about coming under intense pressure by the German Ministry of Justice over the case.
