Germans head to Greek restaurant to devour the Greek crisis – literally!

While Greeks get eaten up by the Troika, German diners eat the Greek crisis away

Berlin’s Restaurant Z has dishes inspired by the Greek crisis. Greek owner, George Chrissidis, hopes to bring Greece’s financial woes to the fore with his limited edition menu with dishes that include a Varoufakis platter and Grexit plates… and for dessert, why not a little bit of Sweet Angie?

Greek-born Chrissidis has spent the last 24 years in Germany with his Berlin restaurant at Kreuzberg serving an array of Mediterranean dishes. He came up with the idea for a Greek crisis menu two weeks ago after creating seven entirely new dishes for his Greek collection.

Appetizers include Tsipras Favorite and IMF calamari with main meal being the Schaeublexit Platter, a lamb-based dish that says all you need to know about Chrissidis’ view of German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble’s plans for a temporary exit.

“At first I had my doubts, thinking people might react negatively,” says the creator of the menu. “But that’s not been the case at all. People laugh when they see the menu items. They find it funny, and they’re quite  easygoing about it.”

The menu, due to run until mid-August, has been a talking-point among diners.

And while there, why not down your sorrows with another Greek crisis-inspired product? The Grexit vodka lemon beverage!
