The autopsy showed that Giakoumakis committed suicide on the day of his disappearance

According to the coroner’s report issued on Monday, the cause of death of 20-year-old Vangelis Giakoumakis, a missing Ioannina Dairy School student from Crete, whose body was found on Sunday, was suicide.

The autopsy showed that Giakoumakis committed suicide probably on the day of his disappearance (Feb. 6) and that he died of hemorrhagic shock (blood loss) caused by a trauma to the right wrist from a sharp object.

The vocational student’s body was found by a shepherd early Sunday in a marshy area adjacent to Pamvotida Lake, Ioannina, in northwest Greece. A knife was found next to the body. According to reports, the victim was left-handed.

The body was located 800 meters away from the dairy school where he was enrolled and resided.
