Turkish jets violated Greece’s airspace multiple times over the Aegean Sea

Following the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Themistoklis Demiris, summoned the Turkish Ambassador to issue a formal diplomatic protest regarding the current overflights by Turkish F-16 fighter jets of Greek territory including the areas in the Aegean Sea of Samos, Lipsi, Arkios, Agathonisi, Fourni, Oinousses, Farmakonisi.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined that these actions are a violation of Greek sovereignty, constitute an unacceptable provocation, and are contrary to fundamental principles of International Law.

He also stressed that these actions, in addition to being illegal and provocative, endanger international air traffic, completely contradict the principle of good neighbourly relations between the two states and undermine efforts to consolidate a climate of trust.
