Greek choir won the Silver Diploma in World Choir Games

Over 480 choirs from 74 countries participate in the world’s largest choir competition

The Greek choir “Manolis Kalomoiris” won the Silver Diploma in the category “Mixed Choirs”. The 8th World Choir Games take place in Riga, Latvia on July 9-19.

Over 480 choirs from 74 countries participate in the world’s largest choir competition, whereas the participants are about 27000.

“Manolis Kalomoiris” choir started its musical journey in 1989 as a children’s chorus under the professor of Musicology in Athens University, Nikolaos Malliaras.

The choir  has worked together with major symphonic and choir groups such as the Philarmonic Orchestra of London and the National Syphonic Orchestra of former Greek National Broadcaster (ERT).

The choir repertoire includes among other major symphonic works like “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff and Choral Finale “Ode to Joy” of the 9th Symphony by Beethoven, musical tales by Nick Xanthoulis, Greek and foreign songs and nursery rhymes by Manolis Kalomiris.
