Greece’s outspoken outgoing finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, who announced his resignation on a blog post on Monday morning was surrounded by the photographers outside the ministry at 12.30 p.m.
Asked about who his successor would be, Varoufakis indicated: “It will be someone that you know.”
The man, who has likened the country’s creditors to terrorists and austerity measures to fiscal water boarding, was splashed with water by a member of the crowd.
Meanwhile, the euro shot up to 1.1055 US dollars from 1.0967 US dollars as soon as announcement of his resignation was made.
