Govt says ‘no’ does not mean Grexit, considers legal action

Greece would go as far as the European Court of Justice to ensure it stays in the Euro

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said that Greece has threatened to seek legal action against the EU institutions. “The Greek government will make use of all our legal rights,” he told the Telegraph. “We are taking advice and will certainly consider an injunction at the European Court of Justice. The EU treaties make no provision for euro exit and we refuse to accept it. Our membership is non-negotiable.”

Greek officials are seriously contemplating suing the European Central Bank for freezing emergency liquidity assistance for Greek banks, effectively pulling the plug on the Greek banking system. The Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government of Greece believes that this is in breach of the ECB’s legal duty to maintain financial stability. Capital controls were placed by the Greek government to combat this decision and to maintain liquidity.

Greek PM A. Tsipras says “no” is still “yes” to being part of Europe

Asked about Greece’s volition to remain in the Eurozone during an interview with the national state radio and television network (ERT), Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said: “Who can cut Greece off from Europe? Greece is in the heart of Europe and will remain in the heart of Europe.”
