Greek Labour Min. Katrougalos says EKAS will come back in 2018

He is proud of the new social security law

Greek Labour Minister George Katrougalos defended the new social security law passed in parliament, saying he was ‘proud’ of his achievement, in an interview to Skai TV, Saturday morning. He claimed the cuts in pensions were ‘fair’ for everyone, while repeating that there would be not slashes in main pensions. Katrougalos explained that his ‘success’ was due to the fact that he improved the social security structure, and not just focus on saving money like the previous governments. On the scrapping the Pensioners Social Solidarity Benefit (EKAS), the Minister agued it would be scalable and it would be reassessed in 2018. ‘A large chunk lost in EKAS would be given back in 2018’, he said.
