A Greek sandwich called ‘Deconstructed bean soup’ received second prize at the 11th World Sandwich Delifrance competition that took place on march 14-15 in the framework of the Sandwich & Snack Show in Paris. The 10 gastronomy contestants had to put together a dish based on a traditional food served in their countries. The Greek runner up, Karolina Pliatsika, chose to make a sandwich based on the traditional and very popular Greek bean soup. Gastronomy, speed of creation and the nutritious value of the ingredients used were factored in for the final selections. Karolina used sesame seeds, mashed bean pure, sunflower, celery and smoked trout among other ingredients to convey the Greek taste. The first prize went to Peru, while a Turkish sandwich took 3rd spot.
