Greek war reparations claims are arbitrary and “documented”

Greek Parliamentary Speaker contemplates the symbolic value of having outstanding WWII debt paid back at a time when Greece is called to repay a debt of “inferior” value

Parliament Speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou said that Greek claims for war reparations from Germany remain “documented and uncontested” following the briefing of the special Parliament Committee set to pursue war reparations and debts owed by Germany.

Konstantopoulou believes that the cost of war claims may reach 340 billion euros for Greece. “According to the most modest estimations, our country’s claims total 280 to 340 billion euros,” she said. “At a time when our country is suffering due to our creditor’s claims for a debt that is much inferior than this you can understand its value.”
