Guardian special: Brain Eno meets Yanis Varoufakis and two bald heads collide

The veteran British pop star met the ex-rock star finance minister

The Guardian describes both Brian Eno and Yanis Varoufakis as “stylish, shaven-headed men famous for their radical ideas”. The two, apart from being leaders in their field, are also friends. Together they recently attended a U2 concert. A transcript of their conversation focuses on the every-day things they say to each other.

BALDHEADS2

Brian Eno talks about his walks with two English mastiffs at Hyde Park every morning, and Varoufakis chirps in: “They are a very good substitute for kids.” Talking about how expensive the designer dogs are to keep, Varoufakis explains that there are “fantastic stray dogs in Greece.” He explains how the strays of Greece are adept at crossing the road. “Of course, it is a Darwinian process. Those that have not learned this are not alive,” he says.

TOGETHER

Speaking of his rock star status as an economist, Varoufakis explains that when there is an earthquake, seismologists become important, now, the economic crisis has led to economists sliding into the limelight.

After two hours of talking about economy, music, politics and their children, Varoufakis excuses himself and says he’s off to meet Slavoj Zizek!
