I am an artist – An amalgam of artistic fears (see videos)

The online project deals with artistic fears and perceptions of self in the “selfie”-crazed world of social media

“I am an artist” is an online project by New-York based theater artist and producer Regina Vorria that calls on artists to take a 30-second video of themselves answering the following question:

What is your greatest fear/anxiety right now?

The goal is to examine how concepts like fear are interpreted by individual artists across the board, whether it be art, drama, music, dance or poetry. Or as the “I am an artist” site states:

Artists of all disciplines and from all across the world are called to film themselves on a smart device while responding to one broad and predetermined question. The goal is to create a public forum where artists can share their angsts, investigate how fear and anxiety is interpreted by each individual, and eventually explore if and how the various responses deviate, or not, from our overall anxieties as human beings. At a time when the internet is used predominantly to promote an outwardly perfect image of ourselves, the project explores the possibility of it serving as a medium for creating sincere connections with one another.

The project has a video format and is like a huge group video “selfie” that pokes its tongue out at social media that portrays images of people’s lives in ways that delete imperfections.

The project has received a broad range of participants from around the world, from New York to New Orleans, from St. Louis to Athens, from Thesaloniki to Paris etc. To participate in the project CLICK HERE.
