ILINA bad weather system to hit Greece

Heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied in places by a high frequency of lightning, hail, and strengthened winds are forecast for the next two days

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) updated its extreme weather warning at noon on Monday about the ILINA bad weather system.

As stated in the warning, the bad weather system will affect several areas of Greece until tomorrow, Tuesday, with heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied in places by a high frequency of lightning, hail, and strengthened winds locally stormy in the Aegean.

For today, Monday (04-03-2023), heavy rains and storms are predicted in the following regions:

a) in Ionia, Epirus, western and central Macedonia, western and central Sterea, Thessaly, and western and southern Peloponnese. Until the early evening hours in the northern parts of Thessaly and in central Macedonia the phenomena will be particularly intense.

b) from late afternoon in eastern Macedonia and

c) in the evening hours in Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese.

The phenomena in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Macedonia, western and central Sterea, Thessaly, and western Peloponnese in the evening hours will weaken.

For tomorrow Tuesday (04-04-2023), locally heavy rains and storms are forecast at intervals,

a) in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese

b) until noon in central Macedonia, and,

c) in the morning hours in the Cyclades, Crete, southern Evia, and southern Peloponnese.

Locally, stormy south-southeasterly winds of intensity 7 to 8 Beaufort will prevail

a) today Monday (04-03-2023) in the eastern Aegean, and,

b) in the early hours of Tuesday (04-04-2023) in the area of ​​Kastelorizo.

Earlier on Monday morning, a message was sent from the 112 warning SMS system to residents of Thessaloniki, Imathia, Pella, and Pieria.

“Dangerous weather phenomena (strong storms-gusty winds) from noon in Pella, Imathia, Pieria, Thessaloniki. Limit movements to those absolutely necessary & follow the instructions of the Authorities”, the message sent to the mobile phones of the residents of the specific areas states.
