Illegal racing in Athens – Sounion: They reached 292 km and were “caught” via social media – Watch video

The traffic police patrols both the roads and the… social media networks

“Fire” on the asphalt, with speeds up to 292 kilometers per hour and races on the Athens – Sounion coastal road put two drivers who fell into the “nets” of the Attica Traffic Police as they videotaped their..speed and “posted” it on social media networks.

Dangerous driving, speeding, dangerous manoeuvres, improper overtaking, violation of a double dividing line, use of a mobile phone.

The two drivers broke the “counter” in violations of the Highway Code and anti-social behaviour as they not only endangered drivers on the roads they chose for their races but also made sure to promote their… performance with posts on social media.

Unfortunately for them, however, the police officers of the Traffic Accident Control and Prevention Teams of the Attica Traffic Police Directorate patrol the road network and the social networks.

After careful investigations, the police officers identified their high performance cars and identified the two drivers, against whom a case was filed for repeated violation of Article 290A of the Criminal Code (Dangerous Driving).

As it emerged from the police investigation, based on the videos from social media, the two drivers developed speeds of up to 292 km, while for their impromptu races they mainly chose the Athens – Sounion highway (at the height of the entertainment center “Ribas”) where with the foot nailed to the pedals made dangerous maneuvers by constantly violating the double dividing line.

The record for acceleration from a standstill was recorded, however, on Schistos Avenue (in the direction of Keratsini) where the cars “reached” 215 km in just a few seconds.

A speed of 220 kilometres per hour was detected on the new Athens – Corinth highway, at the height of the area of Megara, while high speeds were also recorded on other busy roads in the basin and more widely.

It is noteworthy – and even more worrying – that while the foot was “planking” the accelerator, the hand was activating the mobile phone camera in order to record the performance on video to be shown on social networks.
