In the hunt for the… “Lucky receipt”

Prize draws and money prizes

Based on the positions presented to Troika, the Ministry of Finance wants to make every receipt that the taxpayer holds in a “lottery”.

Meaning, that the receipts that citizens accumulate could be a “lucky receipt” which at the end of the month or year could win from the government a present  or a money prize.

That way, the Greek government believes and estimates to have a 500 million euro VAT increase.

The government relies on a detailed report, which includes extensive documentation about the great success of similar programs in countries like Portugal, Malta and Slovakia.

However, although the motive might be tempting for taxpayers, the government might loose on VAT, since people might be asking instead of a big receipt for two or three smaller ones.
