Italy: Draghi announced his resignation

Analysts confirm the forecast for early parliamentary elections in the fall, most likely in early October

The Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi submitted his resignation today to President Sergio Mattarella, who asked him to remain acting Prime Minister, the Italian presidency said in a statement.

The announcement does not say whether Mattarella will dissolve Parliament or call early elections.

However, analysts confirm the forecast for early parliamentary elections in the fall, most likely in early October.

The Italian “La Repubblica” estimates that the elections will be held on October 2 or 9.

The final decisions, however, will have to be taken by the Sergio Mattarella, who will probably inform the Italians with a televised speech about exactly what the next steps will be.

As the Italian public television Rai broadcasts, the main concern at this stage is the maintenance of economic stability and the containment of the “spread”, which today exceeded 240 units.

The resigned Italian technocrat Prime Minister also met with the President of the Italian Senate, Elisabetta Casellati.
