Labor union spokesman warns of shortages as of next week (if situation continues)

Closed banks, cap controls make paying for imports difficult

Warnings of shortages in the local market, especially in terms of foodstuffs, were cited by a spokesman for the country’s largest umbrella labor group, GSEE, this week, given that many basic items are imported and the fact that bank transfers are increasingly difficult due to closed banks and capital controls.

According to GSEE press spokesman Dimitris Karageorgopoulos the first shortages, if the current situation continues, will be seen by the middle of next week. He added that the situation prior to the call for the referendum was absolutely normalized.
